Locking the front door is the last step, not the plan. This is the shutdown sequence we run when a Surprise house is about to sit empty, in the order we do it.
Do not turn it off, and do not set it to 78. Off lets the house bake, and 78 means paying to chill rooms nobody is standing in. Our standard hold is 85. If your A/C technician recommends a different number for your system, use theirs.
Closing the main takes a burst supply line off the table. Drains still dry out, though, and a dry P trap lets sewer gas into the house. That is why the shutdown handles the traps, and why every visit after it includes running the fixtures.
An unplugged opener cannot be opened by a remote while you are gone. It gets plugged back in when we reopen the house.
Months of Arizona sun through the same windows fade floors, rugs, and furniture. Closed blinds block most of it.
Buckets of water go out to keep some moisture in a closed house through the driest months. Appliances get set so nothing runs that does not need to.
A shutdown is a snapshot. Monsoon season starts June 15, and a house closed up in April has the whole summer to develop a problem. Whichever plan you pick, every visit checks the house against the shutdown baseline.
